Web attacks rise by 93 per cent in a year

Well-known games developer Square Enix has been caught up in a breach, which has led to data loss occurring at the company.

The Japanese firm has confirmed that email addresses and CVs of job seekers were exposed after a hack of its subsidiary Eidos' website and an online page made for upcoming game Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Both online portals were taken offline upon the discovery of the breach, where Square Enix assessed what had occurred. The sites were then pushed back live after security had been enhanced on them, the developer confirmed in a statement.

"Regrettably, up to 350 of these resumes may have been accessed, and we are in the process of writing to each of the individuals who may have been affected to offer our sincere apologies for this situation," the statement confirmed.

Furthermore, Square Enix noted that up to 25,000 email addresses had also been taken in the document security breach, though these are not linked to any other personal data.

Square Enix is known for creating a wealth of popular role-playing games, including the Final Fantasy series and numerous Kingdom Hearts titles.
