Access from any location, any device and any transmission: A key objective for the information-sharing system was to enable staff to be able to work from any location - from home using home pc's, while travelling using mobile devices, and while working in remote locations where local internet access may be over low bandwidth connections or via shared computers. Marie Stopes International needed a remote access solution that would ensure authorised users would be able to access the Microsoft Sharepoint® resources regardless of their location and the endpoint device being used.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Using NETconsent automated policy management software, the Royal Borough guaranteed that all GCSx users had read, accepted and signed the required CoCo Personal Commitment Statement - meeting a key compliance requirement quickly and at low cost.

UK Police Authority

Police officers out on patrol need to be able to access information from crime files and intelligence databases quickly in order to make decisions about any actions they need to take. However, as police database services and applications have become more complex, providing officers with fast and effective remote access has become more challenging. A UK police authority initiated a mobileworking programme that included equipping squad cars with mobile-enabled laptop computers. The requirement was for a mobile solution that would not only provide secure access to data sources such as ELVIS (the stolen vehicle information system) and the PVH handbook, but also support advanced applications such as the Corvus intelligence database that uses a highly graphical user interface, and also support teams such as crime scene investigators who need to upload photographs and complex data to the network directly from the crime scene.

Wigan Council

Wigan has been able to reduce the burden of corporate reporting and policy management using the latest software. What started as an IT project aimed at communicating the Authority's Internet Usage policy has now revolutionalised the authority's ability to meet its statutory requirements.

Elekta AB is a supplier of neuroscience products and solutions. One of its most wellknown solutions is the Gamma Knife, which provides non-invasive radiosurgery for treating brain disorders. A sophisticated treatment planning computer is controlled by doctors via a Windows based PC, which is particularly sensitive to changes in operational environment. It is vital that these Elekta systems, running specialized applications, are protected from virus and malware infection. Even on-going updates for virus protection have the potential to threaten the stability of the operational environment. Keeping system changes to a minimum helps to ensure patient safety.

Compliance and control are key concerns in the healthcare industry. Managing an organisation that provides treatment to members of the public carries numerous regulations over and above the standard controls that are required within less regulated industries. Corporate policies are essential for communicating acceptable standards of corporate behaviour by which all employees must abide. Optimax, the UK's number one laser eye treatment company, recognised the opportunity to bring automation and control to this time-consuming and important area of the business.

In the light of the regularity with which IT security incidents occur within the healthcare sector, there is a great need to improve the safety of its medical equipment. KUKA Roboter GmbH is a market leader in the supply of industrial robots for the automotive industry. Their robots run on a Windows operating system and are often networked.
